The Dominican Republic is having a real moment right now.

The tropical paradise is smashing its tourism records, and more travelers than ever before are picking the Dominican Republic for their fix of sun, sea, and sand.

But what if you want to avoid the worst of the crowds in the destination?

Then you need to know that American Airlines is launching new nonstop flights to a lesser-known spot in the Dominican Republic just in time for the busy winter season.

Enter La Romana.

American Airlines Newest Route

American Airlines is officially launching a nonstop flight from Miami International Airport to La Romana in the Dominican Republic.

The route will launch on December 5 and flights will operate on every single day of the week through the winter season, meaning that it doesn’t matter if you want a short break, a weekend away, or two full weeks in the sun!

Tickets are on sale now, so I checked out the American Airlines website to see how much they might cost.

Because the holiday season is an expensive time to fly, I looked at flight prices in January to get a more realistic idea of what they would actually look like.

The prices below are based on 1 person flying nonstop on January 6 and returning on January 13.

This flight has a flight time of 2 hours 50 minutes outbound and 2 hours 41 minutes inbound.

For a basic economy seat (where you would pay extra for hold luggage and other perks) you would pay $348.

You would pay $526 for a main plus level seat, which includes 1 free bag, an extra legroom seat, and the ability to choose your own main cabin seat.

And if you really want to splurge then a business class seat will set you back $1,509.

This includes 2 checked bags, priority boarding, and a larger, more comfortable seat for your journey.

Why Choose La Romana?

There are so many reasons to choose La Romana for your next vacation spot.

If you’re looking for a fly-and-flop vacation, the area is home to a host of highly regarded resorts and beaches designed for ultimate relaxation.

One of the best public beaches in La Romana is Bayahibe, which has a reputation for the quality of its sand as well as for the bars and restaurants available here.

If you’re lucky enough to stay at the famous Casa de Campo resort, one of the best and most well-known resorts in La Romana, then its private beach, Minitas Beach, is regarded as one of the best not only in La Romana but in the whole of the Dominican Republic.

This is a great spot for water sports or even for just swimming in the crystal clear waters.

On the subject of waters, La Romana also boasts a world-class marina.

That’s why this part of the Dominican Republic attracts so many sailors and other water sports enthusiasts.

Golf enthusiasts also flock to this part of the island thanks to its internationally renowned golf courses.

If you want to go on a day trip, I recommend taking a boat ride to Catalina Island.

This is just a 40-minute journey from La Romana and is the best spot for snorkeling and diving.

If you prefer to keep your head above water, the island also boasts a pretty stretch of sand to explore.

You can take a full day tour of the island with prices from as low as $63.

Although Punta Cana is the most popular and the most well-known part of the Dominican Republic, La Romana has a more authentic and home-grown vibe.

The overall atmosphere is much more laid back.
